Royal Ontario Museum

The Royal Ontario Museum is a huge museum that's filled with so many interesting galleries. My friends and I stayed in here from the time it opened till the time it closed, taking part in back to back complimentary tours for galleries we were interested in.

Student price $14.50
For information about admission and how to get there visit here.

A great summer day out

Walking past Queen's Park to get to the Museum

The building, stark against Toronto's cityscape deserves a mention on its own

The mascot of the museum

At the time of entry, I haven't had my Queen's student card made yet but the staff allowed me to pay the student fare because I showed proof of my offer from Queen's.

Beautiful Ceiling
I stared at this for a couple of seconds and the diamonds in the diagonals seem to move. How cool is that!

One of the first Kayaks ever built
This reminded me of Pocahontas. She's Native American! The first peoples before europeans arrived.
The guide explaining Egyptian Art

She explained that Egyptians drew their faces at an angle so they can draw the nose.

Paintings of the believed after-life on a real sarcophagus

Then it came lunch time and we weren't keen on eating in the museum. Thankfully, upon showing your museum ticket you can re-enter! :)

Subway across the street

Noms. Really cheap! Like 5 bucks or smth.

Another ancient world tour

A totem pole, spanning more than 3 floors
If you're interested in Totem poles, I heard the museum of civilisation in Ottawa is pretty good. Otherwise, if you're closer to BC, they do have a collection as well.

The Meaning of Life
This painting was found in the Canadian Gallery under 'Canadian First People'. I don't quite remember the story of this painting but the guide mentioned that the elements of life are outlined in black and things with life are joint in that single black outline. How interesting :)

Dino Tour
Dino fossils in Canada were mostly found in Alberta :)

I enjoyed the trip to the museum totally! The two tours which were most interesting to me were the Canada and Ancient Egypt ones :) I think the tours are really great so you get to know the artifacts better. Besides its a great value for money esp for budget travelers :)
