Wanna go somewhere where Megabus services but haven't used the webbie to purchase tickets before? This post is for you!
First, go to Megabus.com then select the country and language. So let's say, I selected Canada and English.
You will be directed to the page below.
Look for your bus route by making use of the network map. Once you've checked there's a bus service between the two cities you are travelling, key in those details and search for fares.
OH YES! How forgetful of me. Do create and account first!
Why create a megabus account?
1. If you lose your confirmation email you can always login, you'll have a trip history.
2. You can process change of reservation with more convenience because it will be stored in your account history
Note: You cannot get a refund for tickets. However, should you cancel a reservation, the value of the trip will be added to your account as credit so you can use that for future transactions.
Be sure to check also the public transport timing for your destination. So you'll know how to get to your place from there. If your destination is Kingston, worry not because there will be taxis at the Kingston Bus Terminal when the megabus arrives.
Check carefully, remember, there are no refunds.
I know we always skip the T&Cs but just read it so you'll know their policy for cancellation of tickets.
Payment for Megabus is only by credit card. I tried with a local CIBC debit card and got bumped off before. In the end, I had to pay a higher fare because while my card got bumped off, the megabus webbie raised the price. And yes, they are allowed to raise prices. It goes by demand & supply and also how close to the date of travel that you purchased your ticket.
You will receive a confirmation email. Keep a copy of that! Every Megabus ticket comes with a really long serial number and the last two digits tells you you're the number nth purchaser for a ticket on that trip. This long serial is important because the Bus driver will check your serial before he allows you to board. You can definitely show the bus driver the serial number on your smart phone, but most would prefer hardcopy as these bus drivers can sometimes be quite elderly.
VOILA! You're done with purchasing your ticket :)
Note: It really helps to get your plans settled early so you can get the megabus ticket at a really good price! I ever bought a ticket at $1 before (Trip: Kingston --> Pearson International Airport in Toronto) and the next time I checked the price was $52. :O
I'm not completely sure, but it seems like if you're the first to buy the ticket (the last number of my ticket said <1>) for that departing bus, you get it at the cheapest price ie. $1. HOW CRAZY IS THAT! I saved $51 CAD just by planning early :) So, don't procrastinate!
