Woodenheads Pizza is a restaurant that I frequented during my short 5 months in Kingston. They serve really nice pizzas! Pizzas in Canada can be really affordable (like the $2 ones sold at Metro during lunch). Pizzas at woodenheads serve gourmet stuff, unlike fast food joints like Pizza Pizza. Its a classy restaurant that's good for anything from small gatherings to dates :) Besides, the price of the pizzas here are very reasonable for the quality of food they serve.

Everytime we go, we each pick a pizza then share amongst the table. Since there were 5 of us, there were 5 pizzas too. Not knowing which pizzas were good we asked the service staff to recommend us a couple then we just randomly chose whatever sounded nice. On one occasion, my friend met his Teaching Assistant there, he was working as a server! Kingston is indeed a university town :)
Nona Mela $17.70 |
Arbre Amore $14.80 |
I was disappointed with the pizza because of the measly serving of artichoke and I felt that the marinated mushroom overpowered the taste of the artichoke. On top of that, the mushrooms were marinated in some brine(?) which made it taste sour. I don't know but I wouldn't order this again.
Arrogosta $14.05 |
Dynamo $19.50 |
Santa Fe $18.85 |
Nona Mela |
Desserts aren't on the menu, the service staff will tell you what they have. This means they have much more flexibility in creating and plating new desserts. Yay for us! Usually there are about 3 dessert choices
This was a pear and white wine compote enveloped in a Panzerotti, topped with a dark and white chocolate warm sauce. Even after devouring all 5 pizzas (that's on average a pizza each), we almost finished this! Amazing. I didn't think we could eat that much. Its odd how I've had Panzarottis in Singapore and Canada but I haven't even seen it on my trip to Italy! Oh that trip was fabulous :) Would blog about it in time to come. :)
Anyway, on to the dessert. When you cut open the Panzerotti, it deflates and warm air oozes out as if you've pierced a balloon. Every bite was light and the pear compote gave a pleasant not-too-sweet flavour contrasted with the dark chocolate sauce. At the end of the meal however, I felt like I'd just eaten an elephant :O.
Its a nice dessert if one's not too full but if you're too full but still wanna have dessert, try this one:
A Mille-Feuille and strawberry with a dusting of icing sugar. :O to die for. Loved this alot and ordered it the subsequent times I came (whenever they had it). There was once I had this for a lunch dessert with a group of friends and again close to supper with another group of friends in the same day. Can never get bored of this!
Traditionally, Mille-Feuille is made of 3 layers of puff pastry alternating with pastry cream. This however isn't the traditional Mille-Feuille, its deconstructed. The pastry cream is of a more fluid consistency, the puff pastry is thinner and there's a generous serving of strawberries to balance off all that sweetness. I love how the thin layers of this puff pastry is coated on both sides with a sugar glaze and which has a delightful crush when you cut it.
Another time I went to Woodenheads was when winter just set in. :)
