Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal

The Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal is the largest church in Canada. Construction was started by Saint AndrĂ©, the saint whose heart is kept in a reliquary in the Oratory.

Admission is $3 per person. Admission into the museum is a separate charge of $4.

Located Northwest from the Foot of Mont Royal

Getting there was a bit of a hassle but it wasn't as confusing as getting to Mont Royal. I was along Av des pins and got on a bus in front of Montreal General Hospital up to the Oratory.

The Colossal Church atop a hill
This large dome is said to be the third largest dome in the world, after the one at the Saint Peter's Basilica in the Vatican City.

A shuttle for people who have difficulty climbing stairs.

Such lovely grounds :)

Huge Worship Hall

The altar
This church was hmm. It was touristy yes but it wasn't noisy. Like, once you enter the huge worship hall, there's this mood of silence.. Note that its the 'mood' of silence. It wasn't just about keeping quiet but something about the hall almost just puts you at peace.

I visited the Notre Dame Basilica of Montreal (another Roman Catholic Church) as well and even took the guided tour but I wasn't half as impressed. It was in comparison, it was noisier and there were just so many things going on. Also the admission fee for that was $5 CAD and this was only $3 CAD. If you didn't have the time to visit both churches, I'd recommend you to go to this one instead albiet a little out of the way. :)
