Mont Royal

We were recommended by the reception at M Montreal to visit Mont Royal because it'll be beautiful with the changing weather. The days I was there just happened to be the few days when leaves turn red and fall. Autumn is here :)

Mont Royal is a hill in the city of Montreal and it has the downtown area at the foot. The McGill dorms are just right below and many students jog around the area. Walk a little more and you get to Saint Catherine Street (Pink) where shopping boutiques and the huge underground shopping complex is. An example more close to home is Fort Canning although its way too small and too short for comparison haha.

According to this article here, the city of Montreal is named after this hill.

Though it seems walkable from Mount Royal to the downtown area, it felt really far. Be prepared to walk, else, its a good idea to hail a taxi.

I took a bus (can't remember what number) and arrived at Parc du Mont-Royal. Then I traversed through the beautiful trees and got to Mount Royal Chalet where a spectacular view of Montreal welcomed me. From there, I walked down hill till I got to McGill.

Going crazy from all the wrong directions people gave us

Spot the Squirrel!

This squirrel kept following us, or rather, our bag of bagels. :O They are really cute but imagining them gnawing on nuts reminded me they were wild squirrels. I was so afraid they'd come attack us for the Bagels.

The colours of Autumn

Bagel and Cream Cheese :)

Me and my bagel :) We got bagels for our picnic from St. Viateur Bagels. :) After the squirrel tried following us, we hurriedly ate as we heard some sounds coming from the trash can beside us. :/

Wore shorts out that day cos the temperature wasn't too low. Its said 16 deg but while we were up there it may have been 10 or something. Was really rather cold! So glad I brought the hoodie out although it was so bulky.

<3
After a short walk, we got to the mont royal chalet! This hill has many visitors so don't worry about getting lost, just follow the tour groups haha or read the maps around :)

Mont Royal Chalet

Downtown Montreal.. Pretty!

Some people climbed up then went back down. The cold air made it difficult to breathe so walking down was easier and it made for a more enjoyable route to visit Mont Royal :)
On the way down Mont Royal

So, that was Mont Royal :) Initially I didn't think it'd be actually pretty but I did enjoy the trip. I've never been amidst trees in those lovely colours of Fall and I'd not give up that opportunity to see anything else! I guess if you come during winter, the view of downtown Montreal will be so different but equally pretty :) Ah. But in winter, snow might pile so I don't know if the way down will be closed. It's always good to check with your concierge before you leave!

There are other sights around Mont Royal which includes Beaver's Lake (which I didn't visit) and the Saint Joseph's Oratory. Do check those out as well!
