Snack Bar on Rue Saint-Jean

Hi! Back to Quebec City :)

I say 'back to Quebec City' because the post before this was on Singapore's National Day Parade. (Sorry for sidetracking!) I realised I've been blogging for some time but I haven't even got to Kingston, the location of my host University. So I'm trying to complete Quebec then start writing on Kingston before the deadline of the OGEM application so students who are considering Queen's can find out more!

This post starts at the Upper Town in Old Quebec City where I really like the quietness on the streets after tourists visit in the day.

Us before we head to Snack Bar. This was a week before Halloween and the decorations for halloween in the old Upper Town just added the spooks to an otherwise Christmas looking town. It was exciting to be part of Halloween here in North America though :)

Its only end October and the rink is already up outside the wall. Quebec City is located further North than Kingston, Ottawa and Montreal so it tends to get cold earlier. It was chilly but still not enough to freeze the ice, thus its glassy appearance.

The building behind is a concert hall, Palais Montcalm. We went in to check out the place and it was just before a saxophone concert people were dressed to the nines. I was afraid everything would be in French and it wasn't cheap (neither was it too expensive - say.. $60CAD a ticket?) to watch a concert too, so I didn't.

Anyway, off to dinner we went!

We found Snack bar really easily. Clara recommended that we eat here because they serve just classic, unpretentious poutine. :) #comfortfood.

Haven't heard of Poutine?
Ever had fries as a main? This is absolutely the dish for you if you love fries like me!!!

This is the ultimate sinful dish. Freshly fried fries, crisp on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. And it gets crazier than that. Cheese curds thrown atop melt slightly making the dish a messy symphony of food. It doesn't completely melt however, leaving parts of the cheese curds slightly chewy giving great texture to the dish. This is all served with some thick brown gravy. YUMS. Describing it makes me crave it so!

This dish originated in Quebec. So.. what better place to have this than in Quebec City!!

Classic Poutine

Poutine with Hotdogs

Poutine and Stewed Beef

Don't they just look so awesome!!! :)) You've gotta try poutine! Just from anywhere, have poutine! It can't go wrong! (Oh. But don't get the Poutine from Wendy's/KFC I don't remember which one, didn't like that cos' of the gravy)

Digging in! Till next time!
