Citadelle of Quebec

The Citadelle of Quebec is a military installation that is part of Old Quebec City. I think of it as being the main reason why Quebec City existed. Most towns spring up because the area around it gets fortified and military men visit restaurants, pubs etc. Just like how Kingston was the result of Fort Henry.

With my travel buds on a pretty summer day :)

This Citadelle is linked to the Plains of Abraham on one end, where the famous Battle of Quebec took place. It was and is still currently under military operation. This place has a museum and they invite people to find out about Quebec City's history here, but only under a Citadelle tour guide.

There are pros and cons. This means, you buy a ticket and you automatically get a tour guide (you'll depart when the group starts to be reasonably big). But, it also means that you aren't allowed to walk around on your own. Me and my friends lagged behind abit and were reprimanded (really.) by the next tour guide for not keeping close to our own group. When asked if we can follow her tour group instead, she refused and made us look for ours. Another bad point is you can't stay for as long as you wish at a spot. The tour group just goes and goes and goes "Okay. 5 minute picture opportunity guys!" and then. "Alright! Hope you guys have got a good shot, lets move on!" :(

My Tour Guide

My tour guide was really nice. It happened that it was her first day here and when the information she gave was a little limited, an elderly Canadian man shared his knowledge. She was really nice! It's the next tour guide we met who screamed at us like a principal reprimanding her school kids.

That door there, is said to be the oldest door in the entire of North America. It is the first door ever to be built on North American soil. At those times, horse carriages passed through them, but thankfully, modern cars are able to fit through as well! Indeed, a wall that transcends many generations.

Anyone watched My Little Pony: The Movie? This well totally reminds me of the well one little pony fell into :) Check out how cute this looks especially with the greens shaped like a flower.

The next few photos are the prettiest photos of my entire exchange. Of all the places I have travelled to, this is the most beautiful. Like what my tour guide said, this vantage point really gave the loveliest view of Old Quebec City. This is how I envisioned Disneyland would be if it were real.

Look at those pointy tops on the towers of the Chateau, and the contrasting green reminiscent of the Baroque churches in Austria. Mountains quietly sit in the background providing pretty gradations of blue and purple, marrying the sea and the sky.

Je me souviens means "I remember." and is the official motto of the province of Quebec. People remember their values, heritage, culture and lineage.

A very last photo to end my entries on Old Quebec City. This to me is the most pretty, beautiful, lovely, rustic, european, regal, (insert any other positive adjective) city of all the places I've been to in North America.
