Parliament Hill

The premises of the Parliament Hill are open till pretty late. We came here at about 11:45pm and stayed on till 12:15am. Other friends stayed on till later but I don't know what time it was till. 12:15am is very late  for sight seeing we didn't notice till we got in, and after us I think the security guards shut the side gate.

This large area which houses the parliament of the current capital of Canada in Ottawa is a stunning sight to behold. The dim lights against the eerie stillness and quietness made me feel like I was in Harry Potter world. My camera doesn't perform well at night, thus the photos do not do the sight justice.

Saskatchewan and Manitoba
The warm fire burning at the edge of the field opposite the main building offered comfort as the temperature started falling below 16 deg. The shields seen at the fireplace represent the 17 different provinces of Canada. For more information of the shields visit here.

The day after, I visited the Parliament Hill again, hoping to get a glimpse of what's inside. However, to our dismay, upon arrival we were told that tickets for the Parliament Hill tour were all given out. Apparently, you can get their ticket on the official website under the tab 'Visitor's Information'. It was our last day in Ottawa and we didn't have to chance to come back another day, but we wasted no time in snapping a couple of shots in front of the iconic building :)

Parliament Hill
Official Website here.

Its no surprise that they may suddenly close for meetings or press conferences etc because its where the Parliament really sits. Thus, visiting the website is important.  Also it gives you information of some events and activities held. For example, I found out that from end june to late august, they have the Changing of Guards ceremony and Marching Band display to celebrate Canada Day on the 1st of July.

If you don't wanna be disappointed, be sure to check the website out!
