Old Montreal

Old Montreal, as its name suggests, is the historic city centre of Montreal. The area's architecture has heavy european influence and looks like its part of the Old Quebec City. There are many restaurants here which serve good food that's rather pricey, due to being in a touristy location.

Old Montreal stretches from Station Champ-de-Mars where the Bonsecours Market is to Place-d'Armes (Also the nearest station to Chinatown) where the Notre Dame Basilica of Montreal is, along Rue Notre-Dame E.

Old Montreal
I passed this man planting what looked like garlic to me in the ground outside the Palais de Justice. Curious as to why they're planting garlic in such a touristy place baffled me and I went to find out why.

"Hi, may I know what's that?"
"Morning! Oh. Those are Tulips! We are planting them now, gettin' them ready for Spring next year!"

:O Haha was so embarrassed I actually thought those pretty flowers were garlic! Thank goodness I didn't say "Hi, may I know why you're planting garlic?"!

They look so happy just planting those little bulbs. Next spring it'll definitely be a stunning sight with all those lovely colours :)

Tulip Bulbs

We went to the Chateau Ramezay Garden and walked around a little before we saw a sign that said we'd get gifts if we can complete a puzzle! And so we went through the door and got us the crossword puzzle and off we went on a learning journey!

Since it was fall, pumpkin and squashes were the featured veggies. And also, Halloween was in a week!

Mini Eggplant :) Too Cute!

Completing the puzzle~

Done with my Crossword Puzzle!
Off we went like happy kids back to the counter :) It wasn't hard at all! For one, the names of the veges weren't even the same length :) We got a postcard in exchange and postage was paid! A very good gift :) We wrote heartfelt greetings to our families then dropped it in the post office across the street. Totally hassle free! YAY :D

Georgina at the Bonsecours Market
The Bonsecours Market was Montreal’s main market for over 100 years. I was expecting to see a wet market or produce or flowers but instead the market had much restaurants and boutiques. If you are into antiques and art galleries this would be the place for you. It was quite quiet and rather different from what I expected so it was a little of a disappointment.

Weathered Shoes~

We walked toward the Montreal's Old Port which now has watersports and leisure activities like paddle boating. Perhaps because of the changing seasons these water activities have stopped for awhile.

Bonsecours behind :) Check out those pretty colours of Fall!
Enjoying a quiet morning's walk :)

Wheee! Became a kid again :)

We are happy kids!

Lovin' those colours :)

Love this photo! Something about the angle makes it pretty pretty :)

A Russian newly wed couple took this for us :) Now looking at the photo again, I suspect he might even be a photographer. Though we didn't know each other, we spoke a little and found out that they were heading for Quebec City! Actually, I was in Quebec City right before I came to Montreal and we were able to give them some tips :) They were such a cute couple!! :)

Once you walk into the Basilica, it looks like that. Hmmm It costs $5 to get in and I went in with the guided tour. It was a nice church but the front was a little too.. Hmmm. I didn't like the coloured lights in front I think these colours are distracting during service.. And I think it pales in comparison to the Notre Dame in Ottawa or the Saint Joseph's Oratory in Montreal.

A pretty church

Outside :)

Later on, I went to La Banquise for lunch. Its a poutine place! Poutines of all kinds :)
I read reviews before I went and most were just like, this is a place you go to after drinking and you're half dead and just need some food. Its 24 Hours. But I went in the afternoon and it wasn't like that at all! There were many school kids, groupies, also had elderly and families. I went alone so I got quite alot of stares. Oh well, but there's something dignifying about eating alone :)

I know this doesn't look pretty but its good poutine!! OMNOMNOMNOM!

Digging in!
