Santa Parade 2013

I think the santa parade started further up Princess Street near the Kingston centre but I only joined in from where Pizza Pizza is. The floats travel down princess street and the finale's at Kingston City Hall. This is where santa will come light up the tree and announce the opening of the much anticipated outdoor rink :) WHEEE! Go Santa! :)

I know I can count on you <3

Many North Americans haven't tasted this but I like it better than Hot Chocolate :) Did you know that - Milo's is by Nestle from Australia but the Singapore recipe is slightly different? Now you do! Malt drink, milo! There's nothing quite like it :) Gotta try it at least once!

If you're in Singapore go anywhere and you can get milo hot or cold :) Price varies quite abit depending on where you get it from but they all have that rich creamy malty taste :) YUMS!

That's my bus!

Prior to this, I hadn't known that Kingston had this many people. Everyone was downtown watching the santa parade :) Kids were all wrapped up in their strollers, their eyes fixated on the colourful lights and  wriggling to happy, jolly christmas songs.

The Santa Parade is an annual parade with floats and all down Princess Street. Naturally that causes much trouble for the Kingston Transit since most buses travel down this street to get to the downtown transfer point. Traffic police were all around and people were telling others how the bus routes have been redirected. While I watched the parade (and tried to locate my friends, and tried to grab a cuppa starbucks) I couldn't help but notice all the effort the Kingstonians (haha.), put in to make this a success.

Whether its people in the parade representing their various public service departments or those on duty behind the scenes, everyone was working hard :) Aw. so cute like cute towns people working together to make a festival spectacular. :)

Mr and Mrs Santa :) Too cute!
When I found these guys they were making ice with their bare hands -.- now that's crazy esp if you've been outdoors for awhile. Our toes were freezing off! I was wearing boots with a thin layer of stockings which was clearly inadequate. We stood almost an hour outdoors on the night of the first snowfall. Bad idea.

I noticed that the weather is extremely erratic on days when there's some weather event. Like that morning, it snowed. Canada's weather alternates between hot and cold and when its cold, it suddenly drops low, before it begins a slow descent into the negatives. That night it could have been -12 deg or something. That isn't too cold considering its Canada but we were still dressed for fall. BRRR. Too cold. Thankfully we stopped by Coffee Co. for some hot chocolate before heading out onto the windy streets.

The best dish on this cold day is.. Pho! When someone suggested pho while we were walking uphill against the cold wind up Princess there were no objections haha. Or maybe it was a case of silence means consent because none of us were willing to unwrap the scarves around our faces to speak more audibly. heh.

Pho at Mekong Restaurant
Mekong restaurant is located near Metro the grocer and beside Pizza Pizza :) This is about as legit as asian food can get in Kingston. This hot bowl of soup wasn't spicy although it looks like its gonna make you drink tonnes of water. It was rather affordable too I think including the service charge I paid $15 for this bowl.

I know what you're thinking. Those beef strips aren't raw. Perhaps they blanched them only a little before serving them so that they remain tender while the heat from your hot soup continues to cook them. Was glad that the beef was unexpectedly tender!

Nothing is more comforting than a huge bowl of hot soup on a cold winter's night :)
Finally, its winter :')
